Verify and print a credential
Public verification page
Section titled “Public verification page”Open the credential’s public link to see the achievement, issuer, recipient details included in the credential, and current verification result. Vitni checks the issuer signature, expiration date, and signed revocation status list. The page also links to the issuer and achievement profiles when those profiles are published.
Recipients can share the public page directly to LinkedIn or X, use their device’s share sheet, copy the link, or show its QR code. The badge artwork and signed JSON-LD document are also downloadable. Social previews use the public credential title and issuer without adding recipient details to the preview text.
The verification result depends on the status-list document being available. An unavailable status check is shown as such; it is not treated as a valid credential.
Check an external Open Badge
Section titled “Check an external Open Badge”Use the public verifier on the Vitni landing site to check a Vitni credential or a credential from another issuer. Paste its public credential URL, JSON-LD document, or compact VC-JWT, or upload a credential file up to 512 KB. The verifier accepts VCDM 1.1 or 2.0 VC-JWT credentials signed with RS256, and VCDM 2.0 Open Badges JSON-LD credentials using the eddsa-rdfc-2022 Data Integrity cryptosuite.
For JSON-LD, the issuer must publish the signing key in its assertionMethod. For JWT, the signing JWK must match a key published by that issuer. The verifier checks structure, cryptographic proof, issuer-key binding, validity dates, and supported revocation status separately. It does not endorse an issuer or establish whether the credential’s claims are true.
External documents are retrieved only from public HTTP(S) hosts, without following redirects. Unsupported proof suites or status formats are reported as unsupported. A credential that advertises a refresh service is reported as incomplete because Vitni does not refresh credentials yet. The text submitted for verification is used for that request and is not stored by Vitni.
Portable credential document
Section titled “Portable credential document”Choose the JSON-LD link to open the signed Open Badges credential data. This machine-readable document is the portable credential that an independent verifier can validate. A screenshot or printout does not replace it.
Print or save as PDF
Section titled “Print or save as PDF”From the public credential page, open the certificate view and choose Print or save as PDF in your browser. The print layout includes the holder, achievement, issuer, issue/expiration dates, credential ID, and current signature/status result.
The certificate is a presentation of the credential, not a separate signed artifact. The issuer can choose a classic, minimal, or modern layout, set the primary and accent colors, and publish a logo image URL. The certificate reads the current brand settings from the public issuer profile; it does not change the signed credential.
